The city of Oudenaarde lies on the banks of the Scheldt River in the Belgian province of East Flanders and is located 25 kilometers south of Ghent. Oudenaarde is not yet  a 1.000 years old, but in these past hundreds of years it has already written quite some history. This history has left traces that are still visible in its beautiful examples of monumental architecture. The absolute number one is without any doubt the late-Gothic Town Hall.

Oudenaarde has also some other historically important monuments: the Abbey of Maagdendale, Bisshop's Residence, the Saint Walburga's Church, the Black Sisters' Convent, the Meat House, the Beguinage and approximately 100 other classified buildings.

The primary industry in Oudenaarde is textile production, as it has been for centuries. Historically, tapestries manufactured here are significant, and it is worth seeking out the many institutions where they are displayed or restored. A favorite son of the town is the painter Adriaen Brouwer.

As time went by, Oudenaarde and his surroundings came more and more in sight of the Tour of Flandres. For this reason one has decided to set up a Tour of Flandres Centre in the historical heart of Oudenaarde. The Tour of Flandres Centre is an interactive museum where you can experience the Tour oneself. It's really worth paying it a visit.
